Release Date:

15th January 2026

KBA Summary:

This Knowledge Base Article demonstrates how related plans may be grouped together in BlastIQ™ Underground Desktop, and how this relationship is presented on BlastIQ™ Mobile.

Summary

In underground drill and blast design and execution, it is helpful to be able to group blast plans into a category to help identify and organise them. For example, firings may be grouped into a stope (Diagram 1) or each sub-level cave ring will be grouped to the drive that they are located in.

Diagram 1: An example showing how blasts might be grouped into stopes.

Plans may be grouped together through BlastIQ™ Underground Desktop. A detailed description of the process can be found here.

Although plans may be grouped together, there is no requirement for a plan to be grouped with another plan, and all plans once pushed to BlastIQ™ are accessible within BlastIQ™ Mobile. Utilising the new plan grouping functionality is completely optional and non-compulsory, giving sites the flexibility to manage their plans as they see best.

There are several use cases where a plan may exist solely on its own. These types of plans may include (but are not limited to):

  • Service Holes
  • Escapeways
  • Cablebolt Holes

Open BlastIQ™ Mobile

When a plan has a value set for 'Blast Group 1' (this phrase may be customised per site. Read more here), it will be grouped in an accordion within BlastIQ™ Mobile that includes all other plans that have the same value set for 'Blast Group 1'. The right facing chevron/greater than symbol (>) indicates if the name shown is the 'Blast Group 1' value, and therefore a set of grouped plans, or without the chevron/symbol is a single, independent plan.

A 'Blast Group 1' will persist in BlastIQ™ Mobile until all associated plans have been fired. If a plan has been fired, then a small 'Fired' label will be added to the plan, and it can only be accessed in a read-only mode.
