Summary

As part of the underground drill and blast workflow, it is common for multiple drill passes to be completed on a single hole to achieve design specifications (e.g. reaming) or as a result of completing remedial activities (e.g. cleanouts). BlastIQ™ Mobile has introduced the capability to capture all forms of drilling, better reflecting the real-world environment, improving visibility of a site's production drilling fleet, and easing reporting.

Navigation

Accessing drilling mode using the search or filter function.

  1. On the drill plans page, tap the search field. Type in the name of a plan in the filter plans.
  2. Tap on a plan.

Terminology

Collaring

  • Under certain conditions (e.g. downhole drilling), an initial collaring pass is completed at a greater diameter than the design drill hole diameter over a relatively short length after which PVC pipe is inserted. This is generally done to protect the collar of the hole form collapsing or being filled with drill cuttings. Completion of a collaring pass is optional and is intended to improve handovers between work groups and the reporting of drilling actuals.

Production

  • The first pass completed against a hole that is intended to achieve the full design hole length. However, it may also achieve design diameter and breakthrough (e.g. a non-reamer hole). Completion of a production pass is the only mandatory pass type for a hole.

Cleanout

  • Remediation work completed against a hole that has been measured and noted as short or blocked after the initial production pass. A cleanout is intended to reopen the hole to it's design length, diameter and breakthrough status. More than one cleanout pass may be completed against a hole if the initial cleanout pass was unsuccessful. Completion of a cleanout pass is optional and is intended to improve handovers between work groups and the reporting of drilling actuals.

Reamer

  • A pass used to increase the diameter of an initial production pass, where the production pass diameter does not equal the final design diameter. Reamer passes are typically completed in underground operations where underground drilling equipment is unable to achieve the final diameter in a single pass. More than one reamer pass may be completed against a hole if the initial reamer pass did not achieve the final design diameter. Completion of a reamer pass is optional and is intended to improve handovers between work groups and the reporting of drilling actuals.
Pass Type Availability Rules

The pass type selector always displays options in the following order:  Collaring, Production, Reamer, Cleanout.

How to Capture a Multi-Pass
  1. Select a ring and expand it, then select a hole.
  2. Tap the "+" icon to open the pass type selector.
  3. By default, all passes are available.

  4. Select a pass type.  An inline editor row will appear at the top of the pass list.

  5. Enter the required values: Length, Diameter, and Breakthrough (where applicable).
  6. Tap the tick to save the pass.

  7. A success toast will confirm the pass has been recorded.
  8. The actual values on the hole row will update to reflect the recorded pass.

  9. Once a Collaring / Production pass has been recorded, option is disabled.

     

Note: Only one pass can be in draft or edit state per hole at a time. Tapping Cancel removes the draft entirely with no data saved.

Field Validation by Pass Type

All fields: Length, Diameter and Breakthrough are required before a pass can be saved, with the exception noted below for Collaring. Validation is applied when creating a pass and when editing the most recent pass. For any pass after the first, the previous pass in the recorded order serves as the baseline for validation.

Collaring

  • Breakthrough is not captured for Collaring passes and field is disabled, as breakthrough is not applicable during the collaring stage.
  • All other fields are required.

Production

  • All fields are required.
  • If a previous pass exists, the Production diameter must be less than the previous pass diameter.

Reamer

  • All fields are required.
  • Length must be greater than or equal to the previous pass length.
  • Diameter must be greater than the diameter of the previous pass if it exists.

Cleanout

  • All fields are required.
  • Length must be greater than or equal to the previous pass length.
  • Diameter value automatically pre-populate the diameter of the previous pass.

     

 

Managing Recorded Passes
Adding Passes Maximum Pass Limit Editing and Deleting

The Add Pass (+) button is always visible on a hole row. However, under certain conditions, tapping the + button will not open the pass type selector. Instead a warning dialog will be displayed to indicate that drilling is locked for that hole.

Dismissing the dialog leaves all existing hole and pass data unchanged.

Viewing Pass Data
Measured Actuals Indicator Read-Only Mode

When a Length, Diameter or Breakthrough value has been recorded as a measured actual, it will display with a dotted underline.  This visually distinguishes measured values from other recorded data at a glance.
