Entering Charging Data

Note: This applies to charging licenses only

The charging data entry screen allows you to supply actual (as-loaded) values for various properties of a deck, such as its horizon and charge weight (for bulk product) or package count.

The diagram below shows the screen layout for a deck containing bulk product. Some of the on-screen controls may be different for other deck types.

dp1.png

Note: If a single hole is being loaded, the Update button will be labelled 'Save' and the Next and Previous buttons will be labelled 'Up' and 'Down'. When loading a single hole, these buttons move the deck selection up or down the blasthole.

The toolbar buttons at the bottom of the screen will perform the following actions:

dp2.png Dip the blasthole (i.e. show the dipping data entry screen).

dp3.png Show the loading summary screen for this blasthole.

dp4.pngShow or hide the on-screen keyboard.

dp5.png Saves the data for this deck and returns to the previous screen.

The panel below the Deck Comment box can be swiped left and right by dragging on it with your finger r stylus or by tapping on the page number buttons. For swiping to work, you must drag on an empty area or on a text caption, not on a button or data entry box.

The swipe panel is divided into two pages. The current page is indicated by a box around the page number button.

dp6.png

If you tap on the hole label in the top-left corner, a drop-down list will appear containing the labels of all the holes that you are currently loading (i.e. the holes on the loading path).

If you tap on the deck number, a hole diagram will be displayed that shows the current hole. To load a different deck within the sample hole, tap on it on the diagram.

If you need to dip or re-dip holes prior to loading, tap the Dip Hole button dp2.pngon the toolbar (or choose Menu / Edit / Dip this hole). This will take you to the dipping data entry screen for the current hole.

For various reasons, a deck may not be loadable. If the deck status is NOT LOADABLE, tap on the status to see a message that explains why the deck cannot be loaded.

When loading holes on the loading path, the Next and Previous buttons take you to the next or previous deck in the loading sequence (as defined on the Sequence tab on the Charging Options Screen). By contrast, if only a single hole is being loaded, then the Up and Down buttons move the deck selection up or down the same blasthole, regardless of loading sequence.

Initial Selection

By default, the Actual Horizon box is selected when the data entry screen is first displayed. This is indicated by the dark red colour.

If you want a different box to be selected by default, change the 'Default input box' setting on the Preferences tab of the Charging Options screen.

Data Input

The up/down buttons on the right edge of the screen will change the value in whichever box is currently selected. Each click on an up/down button will change the displayed value by 1 unit or 0.1 unit if the horizon box is selected or by 10 or 1 unit if the charge weight or cartridge count box is selected. You can hold these buttons down and they will repeat.

Note: the depth and mass units are determined by the metric/Imperial setting on the Preferences tab of the General Options screen.

Alternatively, you can enter values directly by using the on-screen keyboard or your device's keypad (if it has one). To show the on-screen keyboard, tap the keyboard icon dp4.png at the right end of the toolbar.

If you are using a PDA that has a keypad, pressing the Enter key while an empty number box is selected will cause the default value for that quantity to be inserted in the box.

Deck Horizon

Page 1 of the data entry panel lets you specify the actual (as loaded) horizon of the deck, or optionally, in the case of stemming decks, the length of stemming (see below).

To set the deck horizon (i.e. the depth from collar of the top of the deck), tap on the Actual Horizon box if it is not already selected and tap any of the up/down buttons. On the first click, or if you press the Enter key, the horizon defaults to the design horizon of the deck. continue tapping (or hold down) the up/down buttons until the value of the box equals the measured depth of the deck horizon.

The maximum allowed depth of a deck horizon is equal to the horizon of the deck below (or the bottom of the hole in the case of the bottom deck).

In the case of the top-most stemming deck in a blasthole, you do not need to enter an as-loaded horizon manually. you can skip these decks and then use the 'Stem Holes' menu option to set the as-loaded stemming horizons to their design values automatically.

Stemming Length

When entering stemming data, you can choose to be prompted for the length of stemming instead of the horizon. To do this, tick 'Prompt for stemming deck length' on the Charging Options screen.

In the case of the top-most stemming deck, the length value can be greater than the horizon of the deck below as long as that deck's horizon has not been measured. For example, if the design calls for 3m or stemming and you have not entered an actual horizon for the deck below, and 4m of stemming has been put into the blasthole, then you can enter a stemming length of 4m. In this case, in addition to setting the stemming deck's horizon to 0, DIPPlus will also set the horizon of the deck below to 4m.

Deck Product

Page 2 of the data entry panel lets you specify the type of product that has been loaded into the deck, and , in the case of explosive decks, the amount of product.

If the loaded product is different from the design (e.g. if a hole is found to be wet but the loading rules assumed it was dry), you can choose the as-loaded product from the drop-down list. This list contains the products that were exported from SHOTPlus, which is determined by the product export options in SHOTPlus's blast properties.

Charge Weight

UNLOADED DECK

If the deck contains a bulk explosive product and has not yet been loaded, the Design and Actual boxes will be visible.

To set the as-loaded charge weight, tap on the Actual box (if it is not already selected) and then tap any of the up/down buttons. On the first tap, the charge weight defaults to the design value. Continue tapping (or hold down) the up/down buttons until the value in the Actual box equals the amount of explosive that has been loaded into the deck.

As you change the actual amount, the difference between design and actual is shown in brackets to the left of the Actual box:

dp7.png

When you save the data for the initial load:

  • The Actual box will be renamed Top up
  • The value in the Actual box will disappear
  • The Design box will be replaced with a text label which displays the design charge weight (and adjusted value, if the deck's length has been adjusted for any reason) and the total amount of product loaded so far.

See the 'Topping up a deck' bullet point below.

ADJUSTED CHARGE WEIGHT

If the deck has had its design charge weight adjusted automatically (e.g. because the deck below it has been over- or under-loaded), the charge weight input boxes will be labelled Adjusted and Actual. The Adjusted box will contain the adjusted design value.

ESTIMATED CHARGE WEIGHT

If you have chosen a different product from the drop-down list, DIPPlus will take into account the density of the chosen product and calculate a new estimated design value for the deck's charge weight (by assuming the blasthole in cylindrical). The input boxes will be labelled Estimated and Actual. The Estimated box will contain the estimated design value.

TOPPING UP A DECK

If the deck has already been loaded, only a Top Up input box will be shown. The design charge weight, its adjusted value (if any) and the total amount loaded so far will be displayed where the design box used to be:

dp8.png

If you need to top up the amount of bulk product in the deck, enter the additional charge weight in the Top Up box. Any value entered in this box will be added to the total charge weight of the deck when you save the data. The new total that you will get is displayed below the Top Up box:dp9.png

The total loaded amount is updated when the data is saved:

dp10.png

Note: The top-up amount can be negative, in which case the amount will be subtracted from the total loaded.

Cartridge Count

UNLOADED DECK

If the deck contains a packaged explosive product and has not yet been loaded, the Design and Actual boxes will be visible.

To set the as-loaded cartridge count, tap on the Actual box (if it is not already selected) and then tap any of the up/down buttons. On the first tap, the count defaults to the design value. Continue tapping (or hold down) the up/down buttons until the value in the box equals the number of cartridges that have been loaded into the deck.

When the data is saved, the screen behaves in a similar way to the case of a bulk product deck (see above).

TOPPING UP A DECK

If the deck has already been loaded, only a Top Up input box will be visible. If you need to top up the amount of packaged product in the deck, enter the additional number of cartridges in the Top up box. Any value entered in this box is added to the total cartridge count of the deck when you save the data.

Incomplete Deck

You can mark a deck as incomplete, meaning that its loading has not yet been finished. This may happen if the MMU runs out of product before the design charge weight or horizon was reached.

  • An incomplete deck is shown in hatched green on the hole diagram dp11.png
  • Holes that contain incomplete decks are shown in hatched orange on the blast plan dp12.png
  • A hole that contains an incomplete deck will not be stemmed automatically via the Stem holes menu option.
  • Automatic warning comments (about loading variance or strata proximity) are not generated for incomplete decks.

Deck Comment

To associate a text comment with a deck, either click on the Deck Comment drop-down list and choose an existing comment or use the on-screen keyboard to type a new comment. Charging-related comments can be pre-defined on the Comments tab of the Charging Options screen.

Primer Count

When an explosive deck has been loaded, DIPPlus assumes that the number of primers specified in the design have been loaded into the deck.

Prior to v2.14, if the as-loaded number of primers differed from the design, it was possible to tell DIPPlus how many extra primers had been loaded. In v2.14 this feature was removed, pending the implementation for full support for design/actual initiation across the BlastIQ product suite. See release notes for v2.14.

Saving the Data

If multiple holes are being loaded:

  • To save the data for the current deck, tap the Update button. this also updates the deck status at the top of the screen.
  • To save the data and move to the next or previous deck in the loading sequence, tap the Next or Previous button. You don't have to tap Update first.
  • If you're at the last hole on the loading path, the Next button will wrap-around to the first hole will wrap-around to the last.
  • To save the data and close the data entry screen, tap the dp13.png on the toolbar. You don't have to tap Update first.

If a single hole is being loaded:

  • To save the data for the current deck and close the data entry screen, click save or the dp13.png toolbar button. (If you don't want the Save button to close the data entry screen when loading a single hole. untick 'Exit data entry screen after saving data for a single hole' on the Preferences tab of Charging Options.)

Charge Weight Variance

If you have ticked 'Warn if CW is out of tolerance' on the Charging Options screen, DIPPlus will compare the total loaded amount of product with the design amount before the deck data is saved and will warn you if they differ by more than the tolerance you have selected.

Additionally, if you have also ticked 'Require actual deck horizon', then you will not be able to save the data until you enter a value or the as-loaded horizon of the deck.

Deleting Measurements

Whenever data is saved, a timestamp is associated with any hole property that has changed. History data can be viewed (and deleted, if necessary) by tapping on the Log button on any of the swipe panel pages or by selecting Menu / Edit / Charging Log.

There is also a menu option (Menu / Edit / Reset This Deck) for resetting a deck to its unloaded state, and another option (Menu / Edit / Reset All Decks) for resetting all decks in the blasthole. This will delete all entered values of all charging properties fro the selected deck(s).

From the graphical view of the blast, you can also reset all decks in all holes on the loading path or in all holes in the blast by using the options under Menu / Edit / Reset All Decks.
