Entering Dipping Data

The dipping data entry screen is displayed if you select any of the dipping menu options on the graphical or table views, or if you tap on a hole on the blast view.

Note: If you are dipping a single hole, rather than the holes on the dipping path, then the Update button will be labelled 'Save'.

The panel below the Hole Comment box can be swiped left and right by dragging on it with your finger or stylus or by tapping on the page number buttons. For swiping to work, you must drag on an empty area or on a text caption, not on a button or data entry box.

The swipe panel is divided into five pages. The current page is indicated by a box around the page number button.

If you tap on the hole label in the top-left corner of this screen, a drop-down list will appear containing the labels of all the holes that you are currently dipping. For example, if you tapped on a hole on the dipping path (or chose the 'Dip Holes On Path' menu option) then the list will contain the holes on the dipping path. If you tapped on a hole that is not on the dipping path then only that hole will be listed.

Initial Selection

By default, the Actual Depth box is selected when the data entry screen is first displayed. This is indicated by the dark red colour.

If you want a different box to be selected by default, change the 'Default input box' setting on the Preferences tab of the Dipping Options screen.

Data Input

The up/down buttons on the right edge of the screen will change the value in whichever box is currently selected. Each tap on an up/down button will change the displayed value by 1 unit or 0.1 unit if a depth box is selected. You can hold down these buttons and they will repeat. The same function is present in the temperature logging screen.

It is possible to change the depth and temperature increments via the Dipping Options screen.

Note: Length and temperature units are determined by the metric/Imperial setting on the Preferences tab of the General Options screen.

Alternatively, you can enter values directly by using the on-screen keyboard or your device's keypad (if it has one). To show the on-screen keyboard, tap the keyboard icon dp3.png at the right end of the toolbar.

If you are using a PDA that has a keypad, pressing the Enter key while an empty number box is selected will cause the default value for that quantity to be inserted in the box.

Hole Depth

Page 1 of the data entry panel lets you specify the actual (dipped) depth of the blasthole.

To set the depth, tap on the Actual Depth box (if it is not already selected) and tap any of the up/down buttons. On the first click, the dipped depth defaults to the design depth of the hole. Continue tapping (or hold down) the up/down buttons until the value in the box equals the measured depth of the hole.

Wet Holes

Page 1 also lets you set the wet or dry state of the hole. If the hole is wet, tick the Wet Hole box. The Wet Hole checkbox on page 1 is simply a copy of the same checkbox on page 2. Ticking either of these boxes will flag the hole as being wet but it does not specify the amount of water in the blasthole.

If you have chosen to be prompted for the actual water content of the blasthole (via the 'Prompt for wet measurements' option on the Preferences tab of the Dipping Options screen) then the panel will swipe automatically to page 2. Page 2 of the data entry panel lets you specify the water content of the blasthole.

You can enter the depth to water (measured from the hole collar) or the depth of water (measured from the bottom of the hole). The wet-sides height is always measured from the bottom of the hole.

Hole Temperature and Material Type

Page 3 of the data entry panel lets you specify the temperature and material type of the blasthole.

Set the hole temperature by clicking on the up/down buttons. On the first click, the value defaults to the default temperature set on the Temperature tab of the Dipping Options screen.

The material types are specified in SHOTPlus under Edit / Blast Properties / Material Types. You need to be using SHOTPlus v5.4 build 3 or later for the material type names to be exported to DIPPlus.

Hole/Scan Comment

To associate a text comment with a hole, swipe at any page except the scanning page and either click on the Hole Comment drop-down list and choose an existing comment or use the on-screen keyboard to type a new comment. Dipping-related comments can be pre-defined on the Comments tab of the Dipping Options screen.

To associate a text comment with a hole's barcode scanning data, swipe to the scanning page. The comment box will be relabelled 'Scan comment'. Any comment entered here will be stored separately from the hole comment. The Scan Comment box behaves identically to the Hole Comment box and is drawn from the same list of comments.

Barcode Scanning

Page 4 of the data entry panel lets you set the hole's scan comment and shows you your chosen scan sequence and the slots in this hole that already contain barcodes. You can also access the Edit Barcodes screen from this page by tapping the Edit... button.

The Scan... button lets you begin scanning barcodes into the hole. This button is duplicated on pages 1, 2 and 3.

Strata Intercepts

Page 5 of the data entry panel lets you specify the depths at which the blasthole intersects the rock strata or coal seams defined in SHOTPlus.

Saving the Data

If you are dipping more than one hole (e.g. all holes on the dipping path):

  • To save the data for the current hole, tap the Update button. This also updates the hole status at the top of the screen.
  • To save the data and move to the next or previous hole in the set of holes to be dipped, tap the Next or Previous button. You don't have to tap Update first. (If you're dipping a single hole, the Next and Previous buttons will not be visible.)
  • If you're at the last hole in the set of holes being dipped, the Next button will wrap-around to the first hole. Similarly, tapping the previous button when you're finished on the first hole will wrap-around to the last.
  • To save the data and return to the blast view, tap the dp4.pngbutton on the toolbar. You don't have to tap Update first.

If you are dipping a single hole only:

  • To save the data for the current hole and close the data entry screen, click Save or the dp4.png toolbar button.
  • The Next and Previous buttons will not be visible.

Deleting Measurements

Whenever data is saved, a timestamp is associated with any hole property that has changed. History data can be viewed (and deleted, if necessary) by tapping on the Log button on any of the swipe panel pages except page 5, or by selecting Menu / Edit / Dipping Log.

There is also a menu option (Menu / Edit / Reset Blasthole) for resetting a blasthole to its undipped state. This will delete all entered values of all properties for the selected blasthole, including all scanned barcodes

From the graphical view of the blast, you can also reset all holes on the dipping path or all holes in the blast by using the options under Menu / Edit / Reset.
